20 Week Consultant Appointment

I got referred to a consultant in my first booking appointment due to past and current health issues that came up at my booking appointment back in September. December seemed like such a long way off then but now here it is!

- I suffer from migraines currently which they needed to monitor with coming off medication etc
- I had an eating disorder (mainly anorexia) through my mid-late teenage years and into my early twenties. I'm lucky to be able to say that part of my life doesn't affect me anymore and I received the treatment I needed at the time. I know a lot of people can't say that and still suffer in silence so I urge anyone, especially if pregnant, to get the help they deserve. It's nothing to be ashamed if and it can change your life I promise! I don't usually talk a lot about that time in my life because I feel that chapter is closed but I'm debating doing a separate post just in case it might help even just one person
- I've had recurring kidney infections which they seem to be quite interested in when you're pregnant, not sure why!

Unfortunately, after barely waiting anytime for appointments before, I had to wait ages for this one. The husband came with me so at least there was someone to chat to! It was so busy. First I waited about 40 mins past my appt time to go through to the usual antenatal room where they do your blood pressure and check your pee. Then we had to wait another 45 mins to see the consultant. Luckily she was great and super efficient...

She discussed each of the health issues above and was happy for me to be monitored by midwifes and GP on the headache and past eating problems front and with regards to the past kidney infections, she referred me on for a scan to check for scarring etc. I had been offered this before but the letter never came through so hopefully it will this time haha.

And because of all the hip and groin pain I've been getting, she referred me to a physio straight away. You definitely get your money's worth out of the NHS when you're pregnant compared to when you're not!! Part of me thinks it may be because this hospital has had such a bad rep in the past but we've had nothing but good experiences so far (apart from the long long wait today)...

Hope your 20 week appts went well :)
