Mummy Monday: Fitness after Pregnancy and Birth

I'm just at the beginning of my fitness after pregnancy journey but already I can tell it's not going to be particularly easy!

I don't weigh myself so I'm not sure how much weight I put on during pregnancy but I do know that my clothes definitely don't fit the way I want them to at the moment. I think my main goal is to just tone up all over and get rid of the post pregnancy mum tum!

I tried to keep active during pregnancy. I did pilates for the first few months and then as much swimming and walking that I could manage towards the end of pregnancy. Obviously straight after you give birth there is nothing further from your mind than exercising again. You already feel like your body has been through a marathon and you hurt all over! After a few weeks though I found myself raring to start exercising again (even with all the sleep deprivation!) but you are advised to wait until after your 6 month check with your GP before embarking on any fitness regime...

Foodie Friday: Favourite Meal of the Week #2

Thai Green Chicken Curry

I love Thai food. We used to have a great Thai take away near us at our house in London but are yet to find one down in our new area, so I decided to make a Thai curry myself this week...

Tested Tuesday: Widgey Nursing Pillow

I first laid eyes on one of these Widgey nursing pillows at a baby group I went along to. They had a few of them scattered around and I popped Isla in one when one was handed to me. The first thing that impressed me about the Widgey was the firmness of it. I'd been put off nursing pillows because a lot of the ones I'd seen were quite flimsy...

Mummy Monday: 10 Things I Didn't Appreciate About Having a Baby

A mummy Monday topic!

Here are my top 10 things I didn't fully appreciated about having a baby...

Oh. My. Goodness.

Time is a funny thing and your brain is a crafty character that stops you fully remembering the pain pretty soon after you give birth. I totally didn't believe the midwives when they laughed at me and went 'you'll forget it soon enough' as I was adamantly stating 'I WILL NEVER EVER DO THAT AGAIN'. But they were right...I am forgetting. I know it was complete and utter agony that I've never felt before and that I thought it would never end but I probably couldn't completely accurately describe the pain any more and I'm back up to wanting 3 children again. Maybe with some proper pain relief this time though!!!...

Style Saturday: Isla's Outfits #1

Mon: Dress, Primark
Thurs: Dress, Debenhams
Sat: Dress, H&M

We are absolutely loving the Blue floral dress we got as a gift from one of Grannie's friends from Next. The print is gorgeous and it's something I would wear!

I'm a danger to myself when we go into Next kids...could literally buy nearly all the baby girls range if I was allowed!

It's been such good weather here still so lot's of dresses, vests and just nappy time for Isley!

Foodie Friday: Favourite Meal of The Week #1

Sweet Chilli Chicken Salad

I love making this. Especially in the summer. It's a great, light, healthy salad which is filling as well.

Basically I...

1. Place chicken in foil and cover in sweet chilli sauce
2. Wrap the foil up to make little parcels with the chicken in them
3. Cook in the oven at around 180 for about 18-20 mins
4. Whilst the chicken is cooking, stir fry some of your favourite veg (I use peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes)
5. Prepare a salad with some sweetcorn and feta cheese
6. Cut the chicken up once its cooked and toss into salad
7. Dress with your favourite dressing - I love Pizza Express' Pesto dressing, yum!

Topic Thursday: Colic in Babies

Colic. The word parents have either never heard of or the word that fills parents with fear! We've been struggling for over two weeks now with Isla in the evenings and one of the main explanations that keeps cropping up is colic.

Colic is a strange one in the sense that it provokes so many different opinions and advice strategies. it is usually defined as:
'excessive, frequent crying in a baby who appears to be otherwise healthy and well fed'

It affects up to 1 in 5 babies and is a poorly understood condition. Apparently it usually starts in babies in their first few weeks of life at stops by 4 months or 6 months at the latest. It's a bit strange in our case because Isla was 11 weeks old when it really kicked off (if it is colic!). She did have a few episodes at around 4 weeks and 6 weeks of uncontrollable crying in the afternoon but nothing like it has been for the past few weeks...

Wonder Weeks App Review

Originally I had the Wonder Weeks book recommended to me but I never got round to investigating it. About 3 weeks ago the Wonder Weeks app popped up on my radar through another blog and I decided to have a look into it.

You can download the Wonder Weeks app from the iTunes Store for £1.49 if you're on an apple device and from the Play store for £1.25 if you're on an android device. It is well worth the money you pay for it!

The home screen looks like this:

You put in you child's details and you can add numerous children onto the app just by entering their name, age, whether they are a boy or girl and an optional picture...

Mummy Monday: 12 Weeks Postpartum Update

Oh my goodness, as of this week I'm now 27, eeeek! Late twenties here I am. 30 is creeping closer far too fast!

Anyway, after that mini freak out, here's the 12 week postpartum update. I can't believe it's been 12 weeks. The first 6 weeks went quite slowly but these last 6 weeks have flown by.

Weight wise I honestly feel like I'm bigger than I was a few weeks ago! I don't weigh myself so can't know for sure. I'm not sure what's going on because I'm barely managing to have breakfast or lunch and at night I normally just have a relatively healthy meal with the husband. I'm not a big snacker and my vices such and crisps and cheese, aren't really in the house much. It's all very bizarre. I'll just have to get down the gym more. Although not having wine would probably help too but that's just boring!...

3 Months (12 weeks) Old - Baby Update

This month has been a bit up and down. We have been rather busy again and it's flown by. We keep our days as busy as possible so we don't get lonely while daddy is at work! At the moment we go to three baby groups and a life with baby class run by health visitors. On the other days I try to meet anyone I know round here or do lots of housework, washing etc. Not good at sitting still...

Preparing Baby Bottles - Formula Feeding

There are a lot of posts out there on breastfeeding so I thought I'd write a quick one on the bottle feeding process as I was a bit clueless when I gave up breastfeeding and started bottle feeding. I hadn't been given any info prior to birth about it.

The process...

1. It's all about the sterile environment. You're trying to keep the whole process as sterile as possible so first step is to disinfect the kitchen surfaces you'll be using

2. Wash those hands!...

Pacapod Jura Changing Bag Review

You can definitely tell I am now a mum because instead of asking for a pair of shoes or a bag or jewellery of some sort for my birthday I asked for...a Pacapod changing bag!!

When I started looking at changing bags back when I was pregnant, I couldn't justify spending more than £50 so that ruled out all Pacapods. Fast forward to 10 weeks post birth and 10 weeks of actually using a changing bag, I changed my mind...

With my birthday coming up my mum and dad asked what I fancied from them and a Pacapod bag sprung to mind!

My mum was down from Scotland so we went to John Lewis to have a look at the different styles. Originally I was looking at the Oban but when I saw it in real life I didn't feel like it was girly enough. I don't usually like patterned bags but I saw the Jura in Red in John Lewis and liked the shape and pattern of it. Only problem is I didn't want it in Red so we had to order it off the Pacapod website.

This is the description on the Pacapod website:

It arrived really quickly and my mum let me open it early to check I liked it!

Mothercare Mobile Review

I just had to write a review on this Mothercare mobile because it has literally changed our lives! We got given the mobile by Grannie and Grandad (my mum and dad).

Before he came into our lives, between 9am and 10-10.30am was a constant struggle in our household. I would have fed I her bottle but she'd be awake and looking for sources of full on entertainment, which when you're trying to get ready and do some household chores, was a nightmare...
