Baby Groups. Hot or Not?

Baby swimming. Baby massage. Baby yoga. Baby signing. Stay and play. Baby and toddler groups. Messy play. Baby PEEP. Tums and mums. The list goes on and on and it seems, if you wanted to, you could go to a different baby group 3 times a day, 5 days a week!

I go to a least one group a day apart from on Fridays. And Mondays are swimming lessons so not quite the same as a baby group I guess.

I don't know if I would go to so many if I hadn't moved to a new area before I had Isla. I needed the groups as an excuse to get out of the house and try and have some social interaction!...

What I Wore Wednesday: Mummy OOTD #12

Sorry this is a bit late dolls! We've had a pretty hectic day. I went and met my friend for a bit at his new place then had a quick, late lunch and ran off to the airport to catch our flight to Southampton. I'm currently writing this sat on the plane!

I've worn 2 outfits today! One normal one and one travelling one.

Unfortunately for you it's the travelling one I took photos of!

The Most Important Qualities We Teach Our Children #HelloRBS*

When I first found out I was pregnant one of the first things, that really hit me, was that I was going to become fully responsible for another human being. It was slightly overwhelming knowing that I, along with the husband, would be integral in shaping how that little human being grew up and acted throughout their life.

It got me thinking about what important traits and qualities I would want to encourage in our daughter. There are so many external influences that you can't control when it comes to bringing up your children but there are also so many things you can do and teach at home that will (hopefully!!) help them realise what's important in life.

Loyalty and fairness are two qualities that I feel are huge indicators as to what kind of person you are. They make you a great friend, a good employee, a fab parent and a valued family member. I really do try to go out of my way to help my family and friends. I would put their needs equal to and above any of my own and hope that this would set an example to Isla.

As Isla is only 6 months old at the moment, it'll be a while before we can sit down and talk to Isla about what it means to be loyal and fair but at the moment it's all about letting her interact with other babies and making sure she shares toys etc. A good starting point!

I LOVE this top. I have to say I've never actually bought anything from Mini Club at Boots for Isla before. They have some really lovely stuff and a great brand called Bows and Arrows which this lovely jumper below is from...

I ended up buying her a few bits and pieces when I was in getting my new glasses. I just can't walk away from baby clothes!!

Definitely check out what they've got on offer. It was 3 for 2 when I went in. Couldn't resist really...

Tommee Tippee Electric Steam Steriliser Review*

We are SO happy to be able to say that we are now official Babies R Us Babyologists!!

The first product that we have been sent to review is the fantastic Tommee Tippee Electric Steam Steriliser which is totally BPA free. It's RRP is £29.99 which is a great price for such a useful piece of equipment.

It really is a must have gadget for any parents who are formula, combination or expressed milk feeding. Basically, anyone who uses a bottle (although it is also very useful for sterilising other baby equipment too).

The box the steriliser comes in has loads of handy information on it and there is an instruction manual as well. Not that you'll need it, as it's so easy to use!

The slimline shape of the steriliser is great and means that it'll easily fit on kitchen surfaces without taking up too much room.

It comes with a handy set of tongs to stop those fingers getting burnt/to keep the bottle parts sterile and a mini bottle you can use as a measuring cup to fill the steriliser up with. It has a handy dotted line where you need to fill water up to for use in the steriliser. There was a 0-3 month soother in the box as well. The Tommee Tippee soothers are great.

The inner section consists of two levels of trays for putting your bottle parts on. You can comfortably fit in 6 Closer to Nature bottles. I also found it easy to fit in 4 of the Advanced Comfort bottes in at one time, even with all their fancy air vent gadgets that come with them.

It is super efficient and sterilises bottles within 5 minutes! Much quicker than using a sterilising solution. You literally just press one button, which will light up Orange and then go out when it's ready.

It is recommended to leave the bottles for a few minutes to let them cool down a little before getting them out. If the lid is kept on, the bottles will stay sterile for up to 24 hours which is a great amount of time. The lid itself is useful as it can be used as a sterile surface for making bottles up on if turned upside down. Are there no limits to this sterilisers usefulness?!

When it comes to cleaning the steriliser it is super easy due to the few simple parts that make up the product. They come apart very easily and can be washed quickly.

Pros:
- easy to use
- easy to clean
- fits in well in the kitchen
- great price

Cons:
- genuinely can't think of any!

Recommend?

I don't know what we would of done without this steriliser. It really does make the whole sterilising process, that some parents can be a bit anxious about, so easy. If you are debating which one to go for, make it this one.

Here's a little video to go with the review...

Next on our Tommee Tippee hit list...The Perfect Prep Machine. I really, really wish we had gotten one of these before Isla came along. I can keep wishing haha...

*We were sent the Tommee Tippee Electric Steam Steriliser by Babies-R-Us to review but all opinions are 100% our own

BabyBjörn Carrier We Launch Event

We were very lucky little cookies last month and were invited to the BabyBjörn interactive blogger breakfast to celebrate the launch of their new carrier, the BabyBjörn Carrier We.

It was held at the W Hotel in Leicester Square in London and what a location that was. Just look at these photos! It was such a fun, quirky hotel. I'm trying to convince the husband to book us a night or two there!

The room was set up really nicely with the logos and dots all over the walls. There was even a whiteboard for us to leave little messages saying where would be our favourite place to go when using the carrier, which was really fun.

The BabyBjörn team were absolutely amazing. So friendly and welcoming and able to answer any questions we had with no hesitation. I could have stayed all day chatting to them. We also met some lovely other bloggers including the lovely Lucinda from Teacher2Mummy with gorgeous Mr Elliot...

Weekly Round Up #2

I totally meant to post this yesterday but I got a little carried away with the celebrations for my brother's 21st birthday!

We're back home in Scotland at the moment and it's been go go go since we got here. In a good way though. It's fab to be back and the more people around for Isla, the better I say!

Monday:

We had Isla's swimming lesson in the morning and it was only my friend and I who were there for the lesson so it was proper VIP treatment for the babies. Afterwards we went into one of the town centres near us for a coffee (and cake) and a mooch around the shops. I ended up buying Isla some headbands from Next and a Grobag from TK Maxx because they were half price compared to the usual prices, happy days

Someone was being a spewy louis at night so looked like this for most of the evening...

Maternity Leave Bucket List

I'm in a bit of an awkward situation because the job I had previously and which I am currently on maternity leave with is in London. And we live in Portsmouth now. It's just that little bit too far to commute too unfortunately which I'm gutted about.

So after Christmas, when my Statutory Maternity Pay stops, I'll be looking for a new job. Scary stuff! And what's even more scary, is how close that now is.

With this in mind I thought it would be fun to come up with a Maternity Leave Bucket List, for my last 3 months of maternity leave...

What I Wore Wednesday: Isla's OOTD!

What a pose on the left!!

Jumper, Primark
Leggings, Debenhams
Socks, George at Asda

I haven't gotten Isla that many items from Primark until recently. Check out our recent haul from last weekend at the bottom of the post!

This jumper is super cute. I love the stripy sleeves that clash a little with the heart pattern on the front of the jumper. The bunny is pretty fun too! It's lovely and soft. Hopefully it'll wash well.

I love all of Isla's headbands from What's in Lilly's closet. Need to get some more, they're such fab prices.

Funky Giraffe Bib Review*

I absolutely love the little handkerchief style dribble bibs you can get for babies and I absolutely love anything personalised so the new bibs at Funky Giraffe are right up my street!

We were invited to design a bib online using Funky Giraffe's user friendly design system on their website. You can choose from a range of colours, fonts and pictures. They have suggestions or you can design your own from scratch for a fully personalised experience.

It was honestly so easy to do and we ended up choosing the following options:

When the bib arrived it looked exactly like the one we had designed online! The dusky Pink is gorgeous, the letter I is so cute and matches back to the colour of the bib perfectly. I love the font we chose too...

Pampers & Unicef '1 Pack + 1 Vaccine' Campaign - Isla's Firsts

Pampers are one of the biggest parenting/baby brand names around and UNICEF is one of the biggest children's charity names out there. So when they team up to help eliminate newborn tetanus through their 1 pack = 1 vaccine campaign, you know they mean business!

I've been using Pampers nappies since the day Isla was born. They are such a well trusted and recommended brand, that I didn't even consider any others and we have no complaints so far!

The campaign has been on the go since 2006 and has had a huge impact on babies lives all around the world. Since it started, the '1 pack = 1 vaccine' campaign has managed to fund an amazing 300 million vaccines and eliminate the disease in 15 different countries, 5 more since the campaign last year. What an absolutely incredible achievement...

Style Saturday: Baby OOTD

Cardigan, George at Asda £18 (part of a set including top and skinny jeans!)
Jeggings, Debenhams £6

I really need to get her some shoes for this chillier weather we're having. It's all about the socks and blankets just now.

This Zara hat is one of my fave things in her wardrobe behind this GIANT bobble hat!

We barely have any 6-9 month clothes so we are off to Southampton today to see if we can find some nice bits and bobs!

The Weaning Diaries #1 - First Tastes

We officially started the weaning (or introduction to solid food as it is known these days!) process a couple weekends ago. Isla is not quite the recommended 6 months old yet but she's pretty close at 5 and a half months. To be honest we did well to last this long! She has been hungry baby since day one and I'm pretty sure we could have started last month, I just took ages to choose a highchair, then it took ages to come!

I picked up an Annabel Karmel weaning book at an NCT Nearly New Sale and it's become my bible. There are so many fab recipes and tips and I'm excited to get onto the more interesting recipes in the months to come.

We have decided to do a bit of a mix of puree based and baby led weaning. For these first 2 weeks we are going to focus on home made purees but Isla has had the odd mini rice cake here and there to gum on. After these 2 weeks we're going to still do purees but also introduce finger food for her to explore...

Sisterhood of the World - Blog Awards

I've been nominated by the lovely Kay and Hannah at Mummy's Blog and Budding Smiles to complete a few questions about myself for the Sisterhood of the World Blog Awards.

The rules are as follows:

- Thank the Blogger who nominated you
- Put the Logo on your Blog
- Answer the 10 questions put to you by the Blogger
- Nominate 10 Bloggers
- Give the 10 Bloggers, 10 new questions

So, thank you Kay and Hannah and here are the answers to your questions…

Mummy's Blog's Questions:

1. What was your most embarrassing moment?

To be perfectly honest, I don't embarrass easily so I'm struggling to think of something! Possibly thinking I'd weed myself after birth but I hadn't. I just hadn't put my pad on right!!!

2. Did you find out the sex of your baby before they were born?

Yes we did! We found out at our 20 week scan and then confirmed at a 4D scan we had. I think we'd leave it as a surprise next time though

3. What has been your most popular blog post?

My review of the Chicco Next to Me Bedside Crib - must have hit the SEO jackpot with that one haha...

The Tell Tale Signs That Your Baby is Ready for Weaning

All babies are different and because of that they are all reading for starting solid foods at different times. These days it is recommended that you exclusively breast (or bottle in my case!) feed for six months. My mum was shocked when she heard this. She said myself and my 2 brothers were weaned from about 4 months onwards. They do say now definitely not to start weaning before 17 weeks and to speak to your health worker if you feel your baby does need food before this. Your baby's digestive system hasn't fully matured enough before then.

Here are the most common (non NHS official) signs that your baby is ready to take their first steps towards food!..

Ben's Beginners - A Kids Food Revolution!*

I've always been thankful to my parents for introducing me and my brothers to the importance of good food and cooking from a young age. We got involved with baking from a young age and when we were old enough to be trusted with the oven my mum taught us lots of basic cooking skills and recipes. I fully believe it's one of the reasons I really enjoy cooking now as an adult.

I definitely picture myself doing the same things for Isla that my parents did for me and I'm far too excited about being able to cook and bake with her in the future! In my opinion, it's such a vital life skill and to be able to pass that onto my children is priceless.

I've teamed up with the lovely people at Ben's Beginners to spread the message of the importance of cooking with your children. They have a new YouTube channel created by Uncle Ben's with some fab videos for you to check out.

The Ben's Beginners videos are hosted by DJ BBQ, who is a very outgoing character and is bound to keep your kids entertained! Here he is in action...

Mummy Monday: Dad Q&A on Labour and Birth!

After last week's Q&A session with the husband on pregnancy - read it here if you missed it - here is this week's Q&A all about labour and the delightful experience that is birth!

(Halfway through the main event haha)

Q: Before I went into labour, did you feel you were prepared? Had you read up enough etc?

A: I didn't feel prepared at all! It didn't help matters that I hadn't been able to come to any of the antenatal classes due to working away. The book I'd read only started with the newborn stage not the how-babies-arrive stage, I should get a refund! I obviously knew what the process entailed but wish I'd paid a bit more attention to what you told me after the classes. One born every minute doesn't quite tell you the full story!

Q: When my waters broke, what was your first thought?...

Weekly Round Up #1

Here's a cheeky round up of what we go up to this week! I love the idea of the new happy days weekly linky over on Tinyfootsteps and What Katy Said's blogs so thought I'd write something I could add to the linky...

Monday:

Isla and I went to her swimming lesson in the morning and had a fab time. We bumped into a girl we'd met at a baby group a couple months ago but hadn't seen since which was lovely. It's scary how quickly our babies are growing up.

Tuesday:

We went to a soft play place with some lovely friends and the babies had the best time! There was a sensory area which was fab, a ball pit and lots of different toys to keep the little ones entertained. Of course, afterwards we simply had to have a coffee and a cake. We chose a Bounty flavoured one which was AMAZING!

In the afternoon we went to Baby PEEP which is run by one of the local Sure Start centres round here. They do lots of singing, messy play, story time and a little talk on a certain topic each week. It's an hour long and runs for 10 weeks so hopefully that'll be enough time to get to know some more mummies and babies...
