Blog Post Highlights of 2014

As today is the last day of 2014 I thought it would be fun to share some of my favourite posts from 2014. I can't believe how much the blog has grown and how many fab people I've met through blogging this year. I decided to start blogging seriously when I went on maternity leave in March and have had so much fun blogging about all sorts of things since then. I've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with lots of fab brands and people and I am very excited about what 2015 has to bring.

New Year Outfit Ideas!

Even though we are heading to a street party and fireworks display, rather than having a big night out for Hogmanay (New Years Eve), I thought I'd put together some New Years Eve outfit ideas for fun!

Memories Of Our 1st Christmas

So our first Christmas as our little family (with my family too!!) has been and gone and it feels like it passed in such a flash. All the build up, planning, rushing around and sometimes stressing for one day, is now over for another year.

Christmas is such a special time of year and I absolutely love it. I am one of those people that are known to do internal (and sometimes external) squeals the moment the calendar turns to December. Growing up, we had really lovely family Christmases full of tradition and love and I always dreamed of being able to have the same with my own children one day.

Baby Christmas Gift List: 1st Christmas

It's getting so close to Christmas now and it's Isla's 1st official Christmas this year. She was a bump last year. We didn't want to go too over the top with gifts as she's only 8 months old and is going to be more interested in the wrapping paper. We thought we'd use it as an excuse to get her things we've wanted to get her all year but haven't had a valid reason to do so!

Here are some of the things we have bought/are planning to buy. Please note, we are not buying all of these. Some are just ideas. Don't want you to think she's a spoiled lady already!

1. Teepee - we still haven't ordered Isla's Teepee yet because I've struggled to find one I really love! I do love this one from Etsy though, it's just a shame the postage is so high.
2. Jack & Jillaroo Dribble Bib, £9.99 - I LOVE all the bibs from Jack & Jillaroo. They are so lovely and such great quality.
3. Zara Cross Bottoms, £6.99 - OK these are technically for boys but I think Isla will rock them with a plain White top, her Gold moccs and a topknot!

A Christmas Beauty Wishlist

A few bits that would be on my Christmas beauty wish list. It could have been so so much longer...

1. MAC Lipstick in Rebel, £15.50 - this cream, mid plum colour is just gorgeous and a perfect winter shade
2. Zoeva Rose Gold Luxury Make Up Brush Set, £56.95 - have you ever seen a more beautiful brush set?? I've been after a set for ages and this one is just perfect. A little bit pricey though, so I may be saving up for this myself after Christmas
3. EOS Lipbalm, £5.99 - I've heard such good things about these and I would love to find one in my stocking. Perfect for this time of year when your lips get a little dry
4. Urban Decay 2 Basics Palette, £22 - I think Rob's parents got this for me. EXCITED! I don't use a lot of eyeshadow so I thought the basics palette would be enough for me in comparison to they full palettes. I may change my mind after using this though!
5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Pro Series Conturing Kit, £39 - this is a cult beauty product that is currently sold out with many people eagerly anticipating the next drop (myself included!). I love a bit of conturing and have read very good things about this one
6. Beauty Blender, £16 for one £24 for duo - looks like a fab product for make up application

Tested Tuesday: Chicco 1, 2, 3 Baby Walker*

We were lucky enough to be invited to the SS15 Chicco Preview Event in London last month. We met some great people and were shown so many fab new products that Chicco are bringing out for SS15.

One of these fab products was the 1, 2, 3 Baby Walker and just in time for Christmas (only joking, we are actually buying our daughter gifts!!), the very lovely people at Chicco sent us one to review.

It comes in a very exciting, and very big, box which is lovely and colourful and very clearly explains the 3 different stages of the walker in clear pictures. The Chicco 1, 2, 3 Baby Walker retails for £79.99.

Whatever stage you have the walker set at, there are two different height levels to choose from for your child.

The first setting is the baby walker stage, that is suitable from 6 months+. It features a very comfy, soft, seat unit that easily attaches onto the base unit using the bars and the main handle section. Please see our video review at the bottom of this post for details how this is set up. The toy section clips on easily and can keep your baby entertained

The toy section does require 2x AA batteries which aren't provided with the walker.

The next stage is the first steps mode, which is suitable from 9 months+. All the extra bits get taken off and clipped away on the frame and it becomes a fun framework for your child to practice walking in.

The last stage is the ride on one, which is suitable from 18 months+. I can't show using pictures just how sturdy this walker is and how easy it is to change it from one stage to another. Hopefully our video does though! This mode is really fun and quite a unique one to baby walkers. You don't find many that can convert into something like this! I can't wait till Isla is old enough to try out this mode.

Deep in concentration!

Loving the Chicco 1, 2, 3 Baby Walker!

Key features:

- 3 modes: Baby Walker, Ride On and First Steps
- Suitable from 6 months to 3 years
- 2 handlebar and height positions
- Removable toy panel
- 6 safety brakes which stop the walker when it reaches a step
- Ergonomic, storable seat for the ride on mode

Price:

RRP £79.99. Available at major baby retailers.

Pros:

- Great value for money
- Very strong, sturdy design
- Fun and colourful
- Great, interactive toy section
- Grows with your child

Cons:

- The only thing I would say, and this might just be Isla, it seemed a little hard to get moving on carpeted floors. Obviously this is due to the added friction of the carpet compared to a wooden, tiled or lined floor. Isla might have just been being lazy too!

Verdict:

We fell in love with his walker at the press event when Isla took her first (aided) steps in it. It is such great value for money, as are most of Chicco's products, and you can really feel the quality in it. Definitely worth it and we would very much recommend it as a fun way of encouraging your child to gain confidence with walking.

Here is our video review showing the set up of the Chicco 1, 2, 3 Baby Walker.

Now for some exciting news...

We have one to give away to one of our beautiful readers. Just enter below!

GIVEAWAY FINISHED

Good luck!!

7 Months Old - Baby Update

Another update that is about a month late!

General:

Ever since she hit 6 months, Isla has been so interactive and a proper little person. That sounds silly to say because she's always been a person but their personalities seem to grow from 6 months onwards.

We've had lots of play dates and fun times with friends, a few bloggy/vloggy meet ups, visits to see friends and family in other cities. It's another month that has just vanished.

One thing I will say though is how violent do babies get!! I know they don't know what they're doing but OWW. Enough with the face grabs, bites, scratchs, kicks and eye gouges please.

Vlogmas this week!

We're still having fun trying to do vlogmas this month. We were pretty ill at the beginning of the week and still not 100% now so bear with us with the video making!

Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe for more adventures!

How To: Home Made Baby Christmas Cards

We decided to give making our own Christmas cards a go this year seen as it's Isla's first Christmas and I do love a bit of crafting!

We bought the following supplies from The Range:
- folded card and envelopes
- paint - Red, Yellow, and Green
- stick on gems
- stick on embellishments - snowflakes and holly
- Gold metallic pen

We picked two easy designs to do because I knew time would be of the essence with an 7 month old baby! The first one was a lights design and the other was a holly design.

See how we got on in our video below...

I really think they are a special little touch for family and friends and we had lots of fun making them. Have you done anything crafty for Christmas this year?

Important Lessons For Our Kids About the Environment!*

I've always been keen to do my bit for the environment. When I was growing up in The Netherlands it was normal to recycle as much as you could and there were no plastic bags available at food shops. You just carried your own, large, reusable shopping bags. I think the UK still has a little way to go to catch up with some of it's European counterparts on the recycling front but it's good to hear that Scotland now charges 5p per plastic bag.
Another step in the right direction is the use of LED bulbs. LED bulbs are a win win situation really. They are the simplest and most cost effective way of saving energy and the environment and in doing so, saving yourself money too. LED bulbs can save up to 80% electrical power compared to a normal bulb. That's a pretty significant saving right there!
The initial investment of a slightly higher cost may put people off at first but LED bulbs  need to be replaced a lot less regularly than normal bulbs so there's another reason they are better for your home and your wallet...

Tested Tuesday: Motorola MBP 16 Audio Monitor and BabySense Bundle Review*

As part of our amazing role as Babies R Us Babyologists, we were sent the Motorola MBP 16 Audio Monitor and Babysense Bundle to review. It retails at £79.99 which is a good price for all the features I'm about to tell you about below.

I didn't realise, until I got pregnant, that you could buy monitors that had sensor pads for monitoring your baby's breathing. In a world with numerous warnings about cot death at different stages of pregnancy and parenthood, this type of product provides a reassurance to us parents in addition to all it's other great features.

What's in the box...

Motorola MBP 16 Audio Monitor:
- Parent monitor
- Baby monitor
- Plug in charger

Vlogmas 2014 So Far...

I thought I'd share our vlogmas journey so far. We were managing well with the whole daily vlogging thing but then my parents came to stay and I've felt unwell all weekend so it's all gone a bit out the window! I have videos to edit to get back on track tomorrow so be sure to check back then and check these out in the mean time...

Thanks for watching!

Beauty - Topshop Doe Eyed Mascara Review

When it comes to make up, I'm ashamed to say that Topshop doesn't usually pop up on my radar. I happened to be in store last week and just pottering around when I came across their make up section. I needed mascara desperately and like the look of the Doe Eyed Lashes. At only £10 I figured that even if I didn't like it, I hadn't spent too much money on it.

First of all the packaging is really gorgeous. Simple, sleek and Black. 3 of my favourite things!

The mascara tube itself seems small but you soon get used to it and I think it's going to last just as long as any of my other mascaras...

Tested Tuesday: Braun Thermoscan 7 Thermometer Review*

It's a fact of life that kids tend to get ill more often than adults. Their immune systems aren't quite up to the superstar standards of ours and they can often get knocked out by illnesses that we would bypass quite easily.

In addition to having a full stocked first aid kit (note to self, still need to get that done!), it's a good idea to have some sort of gadget for measuring your child's temperature.

What I didn't realise, when it comes to taking children's temperatures, is that different temperatures class as fever temperatures for different age ranges. So what's ok, temperature wise, for a 8 month old might not be ok for a newborn. Recent clinical research has backed this.

It was quite ironic that Braun got in touch to send us a ThermoScan 7 thermometer to review the week before we all got ill! Of course, we were delighted to be able to use it out properly though, regardless of how terrible we all felt!
