Isla, You Turned One!

Well, what a year this has been. From the moment you were born, to when we took you home and all the way through to today, your first birthday, we have enjoyed every single moment of you. We have savoured and lapped up every little detail and have enjoyed riding the rollercoaster that is the first year of parenthood.
As you will learn, when you get older, Mummy isn’t the most emotional of people these days but there is something very special about you turning one. I can’t put my finger on it but there’s something magical about your first year in the world ending. It is almost like a rite of passage and now you are starting to grow so fast and learn so much about the world around you.
Your first few weeks and months were a blur of sleepiness, milk, cuddles and love. You were a week early so we weren’t 100% ready for your arrival but I’m glad you surprised us. Mummy is impatient after all! There were ups and downs as we got to grips with how we could be the best parents possible for you but we soon settled into a routine that worked for us all.

Destiny’s Child (you won’t know who they are in the future but heyho!) would be proud of you as you are definitely Miss Independent and have been since day one. You like to do things your own way and show off to us once you have mastered them. You have now taken to turning round and expecting a round of applause after you complete certain activities.
You have so many nicknames already that I can embarrass you with as you aren’t able to stop me yet. You are known as Eeelie Meelies, Beck beck (your nickname as a bump), Bicky Beckers, Little Poop, Dolly P, Dilly Dollars and all sorts of other very random ones that get created on a weekly basis.
So many milestones have been reached but the one I really can’t believe is that you are walking now. It makes you look so grown up and I am losing my baby already! You are probably officially classed a toddler now but I don’t think I’ll be able to call you that until you are at least 18 months old. I’m not ready.
I’m so excited for your future but so scared at the same time. It’s a strange world we live in and I often despair at what goes on around the world and here at home in the UK. I hope your generation do better than ours at sorting things out.
I hope you continue to enjoy nursery, I hope you like school, I hope you make lots of nice friends that will support you, I hope you find hobbies that make you happy (and don’t cost too much!!), I hope you follow your dreams, I hope you see the world, I hope you meet a lovely partner (and have lots of kids!) but most of all I hope you always know how much you are loved.
We think we are the luckiest parents in the world to have such a hilarious, lovely, cheeky, mischievous character of a daughter.
So thank you Isla Amelia. Thank you for the love. Thank you for the laughs. And thank you for such a special first year. We are already looking forward to what the next one will bring.
We love you all around the world and back.
Mummy and Daddy x

  7. This is so lovely. I'm not the most emotional person either and wasn't sad on Amelia's first birthday but definitely felt something different. Love how independent she is, like Amelia who now bows and waits to be clapped just like Isla. You've done an AMAZING job for this first year and you will do for many more to come! Thanks for linking up to #MummyMonday xx

  8. aww this is the sweetest little letter to Isla :) I am still so jealous of her birthday party, saw the photos on Facebook and it was like my dream party. I was really poorly on Corey's birthday, everyone in my family had a bad sickness bug but we still made the day special in our pjs at my mums. I've been trying to make up for it since though!! You've done an amazing job raising Isla this first year and you have so many great years ahead of you :) she is just such a cutie!!

thankyou for joining in with #mummymonday - love Gemma - host xo
